Love is a Higher Law

Intanku’s mom called a few days ago.  It had been a few months since she last called.  May be it was the festive mood and her thought was on Intanku.  But ironically, she never asked about Intanku.  She was more interested in how I was doing in life, my career, my love life and stuff.  And, I answered her matter-of-factly.
Only when I mentioned about Intanku that she started to sound depressed.  I asked her how she could stand not seeing Intanku for more than two years and silence was her only answer.  May be she was afraid of me, after all that she had done.
Many times I told her that I am past all that already; that I am done chasing the ghost of her.  There is no more hatred in me towards her.  All I want is for Intanku to be close to her real mom.  Whatever happened between me and her will not change the fact that Intanku is her daughter, her own flesh and blood.  If she fails to come to see Intanku, I will bring Intanku to her this Raya.  The only problem is I don’t know her whereabouts.  Hopefully she’s in her hometown and I will make it a Raya to remember.

A Raya to Remember

This 31.10.2005, I’ll be heading East Coast to my hometown in Tumpat, Kelantan.  It’s going to be a long and memorable drive, 12 hours to be precise.  It’s only two of us this time - me and Intanku.
Can’t wait to meet my family especially my mum and dad.  My dad has been sick lately due to high blood pressure.  Now he is bedridden.  I hope he will be up and about just in time for Raya.  He is 62 now and the only son left in his family.  All his elder brothers didn’t make it past 70.  Kinda scary when it comes to think about it.  I guess it’s in the bloodline and I can’t hide or run away from it.  I love my dad so much, how I wish that I could be a little closer to him.
This time I promise myself to make it a Raya to remember.

The Last of The Mohicans

Spent two hours last night watching “The Last of the Mohicans” again.  I lost count already how many times I‘ve watched the movie.
It’s a 1993 (?) production directed by Michael Mann and starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeline Stowe.  It is one of the many movies starring Daniel Day-Lewis that I enjoy watching time and again.  In my opinion, he is at his macho best in the movie and his acting is superb. Those who haven’t watched the movie at least once, go buy yourself the DVD.  Trust me, you’ll never regret it.
If after watching the movie you think otherwise, just write to me for a refund!!

Mr. Divine Intervention

The incoming Malaysian Airlines’ MD Idris Jala spoke to a gathering of academicians in Penang on 25.10.2005.  Among others, he outlined the need for the followings to turn MAS around:

  1. going for the impossible;

  2. anchoring everything on a profit and loss statement;

  3. Instituting discipline in action in a rigorous and relentless manner;

  4. Changing one’s leadership style depending on the team development; and,

  5. Praying for divine intervention.

Whoa…whoa.. wait a minute.  Praying for divine intervention?  I don’t think praying for any intervention from above is on the menu for a CEO.  Imagine putting on your resume that kind of stuff.  No wonder he got hired.
No, I am not saying it’s wrong to pray for any help but for a CEO to say that is kinda daft.  A CEO is to make money or turn the company around financially, not to pray for miracles.
One more thing, why can’t the government hire someone more familiar with the industry, regardless whether or not he’s a Malay, Chinese or Indian or a foreigner.  Look what Tony Fernandez has done to Air Asia.  The reason is once again -  Ketuanan Melayu (Malay Supremacy) rubbish.  Some politicians still think they are living in the 80’s, appointing Malays to top managerial positions just to show the people that they (the Government) have achieved a lot in creating Bumiputra entrepreneurs.
Well, the truth is quite the opposite, bumis are still lagging behind in almost everything.
